E.M.M.I. encounters

The Extraplanetary Multiform Mobile Identifiers—or E.M.M.I.—are highly agile, large research robots. Their peaceful purpose has been somehow corrupted, and they are now on a relentless chase to capture Samus. For her, getting caught means certain doom.

The deadly E.M.M.I. are contained to certain, occasionally expansive areas of the planet confined by E.M.M.I. Zone Doors. If the E.M.M.I. is alerted to her presence, Samus must elude its attention before she can make for the zone’s exit and continue her escape.

Modus operandi

Depending on what their sensors are picking up, the E.M.M.I. are programmed to take one of three courses of actions.

Patrol Mode (blue light): Roaming the area. The E.M.M.I. Zone Doors are unlocked.

Search Mode (yellow light): Investigating a suspicious sound.
3/3
Pursuit Mode (red light): Relentlessly going after its target. Exiting the area is impossible.

Central units

These brain-like organic supercomputers hold the key to wielding the Omega Cannon—a weapon strong enough to take down an E.M.M.I.

Survive the Central Unit’s defenses and destroy it. Recover its energy to temporarily wield the Omega Cannon.
Unleash this rapid-fire attack to overheat and shatter its protective plating, exposing its weak point.
Once the E.M.M.I.’s weak point is exposed, stand your ground to power up a charged shot capable of destroying it.

Chozo warriors

Chozo sightings are typically rare, as the last remaining members of this once-mighty civilization try to keep a low profile. But the Chozo that Samus encounters on ZDR is on the warpath, ready to lay waste to whoever crosses it.

The rugged Muzby creature is one of the larger lifeforms of Artaria.

Fierce Fauna

The planet’s native species can be deadly. Stay on your toes to stay alive.

Find your way

The locations Samus travels are added to the map screen. Consult it to orient yourself, deduce your next destination, and search for secrets.

Zoom in and out of the full map screen to get a better look at things. During normal gameplay, you can also press the Left Directional Button on the Joy-Con™ controller to expand your view of the minimap in the top-right corner of the screen.

Locked doors

There are many types of doors that require a certain weapon or ability to unlock. If you don’t have the means to open them yet, remember to return when more fully equipped. (Or see if you can find another way.)

Helpful spots

Take a breather and regroup when you reach one of these locations.

Save Station
Manually save your progress. (Whew.)
Network Station
Receive intel from ADAM that may help you decide where to go next. Can also be used to save your game.
Map Station
Download map data for your current location. Can also be used to save your game.
Teleportals
Teleportals work in color-coded pairs. Using one will warp you to its match.
Recharge Station
Restore energy and replenish ordinance.
